SKU: 4 hats, 3 slippers, 1 washcloth

So I got up ridiculously early this morning (5:15ish) and finished up that washcloth. And I’ve decided I quite like 1824 Cotton. Now I’m working on a little scarf to finish the ball off, and after this Spring Knit-Up is done, I might invest in some more 1824 Cotton and make a sweater. I’ve even got one particular sweater in mind already (Honey).

And now for mass amounts of coffee before work.

I had one ball of 1824 Cotton in my stash, and I thought a washcloth would be quick and easy. I kinda overestimated the quick part. I’m about halfway through with it, but I had thought I’d be finished after about an hour and a half.

Wow. Stephanie’s work at Glampyre is so inspiring. I’m in complete awe. And her mention of modular dressing got me thinking about it – and I found my way over to Elaine Perlov. Modular dressing does seem like an incredibly simple and smart approach to dressing – and Elaine Perlov’s stuff is amazing and chic. But while I’m tempted, I don’t know if it would really be satisfying for me. What if it always felt like being dressed up? Sometimes I just need a slouch day. Okay, frequently I need slouchy days. I like to think my personal style is eclectic and unlimited – or perhaps it’s just undefined and undeveloped. Regardless, could I really limit myself to a “color palette,” simple styling, and few pieces – and be content? Sometimes I want a little bit of a costume, or frou-frou-ness. Although admittedly, my closet is pretty disjointed, and in need of weeding. Hm.

I did get some work done on the legwarmers – and would legwarmers have a place in a modular wardrobe? – but I had to take a snuggle break with Magnum. He gave me headbutts, and curled up with me, and was just the cutest. He can be an infuriating little bugger sometimes – but you can’t stay mad when he’s hard at work being cute. And he smells good, too. Which is a little odd. I mean, normally he doesn’t really smell one way or the other, beyond his regular cat smell. But last night he smelled really good, like he’d been sprayed with Febreze or something, which he hadn’t. Strange.

So I picked up the legwarmers I’ve had on the needles since…well…forever. They’re going slowly but surely. The pattern’s from Glampyre Knits.

A party on Saturday (during which the green hat found a new home), a bit of a nasty cold, and a new book have all conspired to keep me from knitting the past few days. I can’t decide if I’d rather read some more tonight, or knit.

Spring has officially sprung on campus – I saw a streaker on my way back from lunch.

Bleah. The weather’s been crazy lately and I think it’s upsetting my sinuses. Wednesday night I started feeling like crap – sore throat, congested, achy, whiny. I stayed home sick yesterday, and tried to sleep it off with the help of tylenol sinus. And that worked decently – while I still feel a little off, I do feel much better. Which is good, because I was a little worried that I might have to actually go to the doctor to get over this. Bleah. But that’s also why I didn’t update yesterday, even though I finished the second red slipper, and started and finished a black and white slipper for Greg.

The red slippers didn’t fit him very well, so I modified the pattern a little. Greg wanted a higher top, so I cast on 50. And the opening was rather loose on him, so I decreased for the foot (however you explain that) five rows earlier than I did with the red slippers. Worked like a charm – it seemed to fit rather well.

So last night I started the second slipper. That is all.

ACK!

I know the point of the Spring Knit-Up is to use up stash and finish projects you’ve already started, but…I just found some vegan sock yarn on Mary Maxim, and it was cheap, so I ordered some to make socks for Sarah. When she visited weekend before last, she saw an ad for Koigu in one of my Interweave Knits, and asked me to make her some socks like that. So I was just looking at Mary Maxim, since I hadn’t been there before, and I found some Bernat Sox in a similar colorway, and…well, there you have it.

SKU: 4 hats, 1 slipper.

Last night I started a slipper from Knitting Pretty, and tonight I finished it while watching Alias. It’s cute, and it was pretty easy, but it’s a little large – which is odd since I used worsted weight yarn instead of the bulky that the pattern called for. But it’s undoubtedly a slipper, and will warm feet, so no real complaints. I’m going to make a second slipper (for the pair, you see), and then I’m going to make another pair for Greg.
