Fiona Horne is 37. That just blows my mind. It’s not that I think 37 is really old, but I had taken her to be rather much younger (younger than me, if I’m going to be honest about it), and she just looks fabulous! Well, there you go. And I also (on a sillier note) adored her striped hair wrap on Mad Mad House. It’s inspired me to knit some myself. Although I never could tell for certain if hers was knit or not.
SKU: 7 hats, 4 slippers, 2 washcloths, 2 socks
I finished Sarah’s second sock last night!!! And started another hat out of black Red Heart and some of the leftover Bernat Sox. I think I’ll also have enough to make a matching scarf. As much fun as it’s been working on Skully and Kyoto, I also need to get cracking on my freebie/charity/stash-reducing projects. And Sarah’s decided she wants the vintage bathing cap, with black straps and a black flower added on.
One of my handeze gloves broke last night while I was knitting – the little strap that went between my ring finger and little finger snapped somehow. I didn’t notice it until I took the glove off. Hm.
I just got my very first KnitPicks catalog in the mail, and I LOVE it! There are soooooo many nifty vegan yarns. It’s dangerous. But I’m thrilled!
When I said I was almost done with Kyoto, I was seriously underestimating how long the sleeves would take. I worked almost exclusively on Kyoto last night, and just reached the halfway point on the first sleeve. Yeesh.
I’m working on Kyoto and watching Overboard. It’s funnier than I remembered, so that’s a plus. I also took some pictures of Daoine playing with the kleenex box toy. Silly.
Last night I worked a little on Sarah’s sock, and a little on Kyoto, but mainly I finished up swatching for Sitcom Chic. And, as with Kyoto, my gauge is way off – 18 sts/24 rows should be 4 inches, and I’m getting a smidge over 3 inches. Bizarre. Anyway, I’m not disheartened. The swatch itself I’m keeping as a washcloth. And since Kyoto also originally suggested size 5 needles, and I’m using size 7s to get the right gauge, my next swatch for Sitcom Chic will be done with size 7s – I think it’s pretty obvious 6s won’t do it. Anyway. I also made Daoine a new toy from this book I have…the title’s something like 51 Ways to Amuse Your Cat While You’re Out of the House. Anyway, I took an empty kleenex box, covered the hole the tissues normally come out of, cut a new paw-sized hole in one side, and stuffed in some walnuts and brazil nuts (still in the shell). The book said cats would like this because they like to practice getting mice-type things out of mouse-hole-type places. I wasn’t so sure, but Daoine is very interested in getting the “mousies” out. It’s pretty funny to watch her play with it, too. She’ll put her face near the hole, and then run around the box while she’s watching the inside – I guess to make sure the nuts don’t move? And then she’ll fish around with her paw for a while. And then she’ll pounce on the whole box, or swat it so it slams into a wall – is she trying to scare the nuts into coming out? Or just destroy the box to get at the nuts? Who knows. I might have a better idea when I get home and see what condition the thing’s in, and whether she’s got any nuts out or not. I’m wondering if I could put some treats in, too, to make it a sort of self-rewarding toy, to encourage her to keep playing with it.
Skully is coming along rather well. I’m very satisfied, and can’t wait for the yoke to be done. Kyoto’s almost done, as is Sarah’s second sock. She tried on the sock when she came up with Mom, and it fits very well. Success! So my next sock project will be to make myself some socks from the Cantata I’ve got in my stash.
I went to Michael’s and picked up point protectors, stitch markers (no more using yarn scraps or too-large beaded stitch markers!), one ball of Cotton-Ease (looking ahead to Sitcom Chic), and one ball of Baby Soft. I got tired of Skully last night, and started swatching for projects. Excitement!
We had a picnic in Jordan Lake Forest today. We were trying to meet some friends at Jordan Lake, but never got in touch with them, so we just went to the forest instead. It was lovely. Then we came home and played with Daoine for about thirty minutes. I don’t think she quite knew what to make of it, but it was fun. She can also jump up and catch her mouse toy in mid-air when we throw it. It’s awesome.
I did start on Skully revamped last night. It’s exciting! I think it’s going to work, and I lurve it!
I’m worried that Sarah’s socks might be too big for her.
My needles showed up today, the size 13s. I might knit a swatch to see if I could indeed do Skully on them, but I think it would probably make too loose a fabric. Anyway, Elann.com also sent their newsletter, with little samples of yarns, and now I’ve got some serious yarn-lust for Sirdar Snowflake and Tahki Splash. Le sigh.
