I finished my bedsheet tank, and it is definitely pajama-wear. The armhole and neck facings don’t want to stay on the inside. But they’re so comfortable, it’s not really an issue. The armhole facings actually look kinda cute, like little fluttery…things. Mini-sleeves? Anyway. Now I’ve just got to make the matching pj pants, and I’m made in the shade.
My Black Phoenix perfumes came in! Bordello was definitely the right choice for me. It’s bewitching! I also got a sample of Blood – very nice, and spicy, so not a scent I’d wear everyday. More of a very special occasion scent.
I’m about to start cutting out the pieces for a tank top. I’m making it from some leftover jersey bed sheeting. I think it’ll end being strictly pajama wear, but that’s fine with me!
Last night I started reading Herland. I don’t know why none of my wimmin’s studies classes read this book, because it’s blowing my mind so far. We did read “The Yellow Wallpaper,” though. I also got some more work done on Bad Penny. Still doing the first increases, though. Slowly but surely. Oh! And I also tried to find a bonnet pattern. I think I might have found a suitable one on Ebay – we’ll see how that works out. Although I did come across some intriguing re-enactment pattern providers, none of their bonnets were quite what I had in mind.
I think today I might sew some more clothes, and try to work on my fabric stash. I know it’ll be fall soon, but it’s been abominably hot lately so I want more summer-y clothes. Summer-y. Ha. Y’all, I am NOT a hot-weather person. I get all sweaty and wilty and uber-cranky. I cannot wait for Fall to get here. Or at least some serious rain. If it was a dry heat, or if it was raining, I’d be in better spirits about the weather. But with this humid, sticky hellishness…Grr.
I just made some pants, and my goodness, they are cute! I’d take a picture, but Greg’s taken the camera with him to a bachelor party in Wilmington.
They were from a “one-hour” pattern – yeah, they totally took around three. Of course, I also knit a little (waiting for the iron to heat up, for the interfacing) and made some bread (in the breadmaker). But they are cute! And easy! And I’m going to make tons more! I’ve got enough of the fabric left over to make something small. I was thinking about making a little matching purse…but I saw a bonnet made by Emilie Autumn yesterday, and I totally want one for myself, so now I’m thinking maybe I should find a bonnet pattern and use the rest of the fabric for that. Well, except it kind of has hats on it, so maybe that would be too much. We’ll see.
I got to the point on the boobholder where I’m supposed to put it on scrap yarn and try it on, and I didn’t feel like doing that last night, so I started Bad Penny. And when I realized the circulars I had cast on with were too long – my missing bamboo circs showed up! I’ve also been plagued by alot of stuff “going missing” in my knitting bag – yarn needles, stitch markers, measuring tape, needle protectors, things like that. It’s really been driving me crazy lately, so I put them all in my new ChocoCat purse! And it works like a charm! Thanks again, SP!
I didn’t get too far into Bad Penny last night, because I actually swatched this time. But I realized right before bed that the reason my eyelets weren’t showing up was that I made my yarn-overs in the wrong direction. Well, in the wrong direction for the way I knit when I’m knitting on circulars. I know that made no sense, but it reminded me of something that’s been bugging me:
I recently realized that I habitually knit into the back of the stitch – shouldn’t this make a twisted knit stitch? Everyone else I know just knits right into the front of the stitch, and their stitches come out straight and neat. My stitches, for some reason, come out straight and neat when I knit into the back loop, and when I knit into the front they come out twisted as crap. Why is this? I knit right-handed, so I don’t think it’s that. It’s not a big deal – I’m happy with the way my stuff turns out, and if a pattern ever called for a twisted stitch, I now know how to make one show up – but I’m really perplexed.
Anyway, so my yarn-overs were not becoming eyelets because I was knitting into their back loops. So I just need to go back like…five rows, and yarn-over in the other direction (I think of it as “purlwise”).
I pretty much shredded the Hello Kitty mailer in my excitement. Sorry.
It was awful cute, too, though!
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
Thanks, Secret Pal, you’re the COOLEST!!! I wish you could’ve seen my little dance at the mailboxes when I saw the package.
I got a ChocoCat change purse, ChocoCat post-its (they are SO CUTE! and I have never seen them before!), two packs of the yummiest-smelling incense, and a beautiful card! I’m am the squealiest, happiest little thing! And it’s especially awesome because work was pretty crap today, but I come home and have happy presents waiting! Oh! And – it all came in a Hello Kitty mailer!
Now I *have* to go recharge the camera, so I can show you THE CUTENESS!
WHOA! My sister just sent me this awesome link: Harry and the Potters. Do yourself a favor and check them out!
The zoo was awesome!
On the way down, I started a boob holder out of TLC Amore. So far it looks and feels fabulous, and I think TLC Amore might just be my new favorite yarn.
We parked in Africa, caught the bus over to North America, and started walking back. We took TONS of pictures, and saw lots of cute animals! (If you haven’t figured out by now, pretty much every animal is cute to me. The alligators were cute, the arctic fox that was admittedly a little mangy looking was cute, etc.) The river otters are still some of my favorites. And the vampire bats! (They’re cute!) I don’t think we got any pictures of the bats, though, since their exhibit is pretty dark. We also got a membership to the zoo – so we can go free for a year! Muhahahahah!
And we got to see the grizzlies brawl over food. (Don’t worry, though, the trainers came and broke it up with a quickness!) Since I’m such a softy, I was scared for a bit that they’d get hurt. But it was also pretty awe-inspiring. Also? Don’t mess with grizzlies. They are huge and hardcore. I mean, I knew that before we went to the zoo, but the grizzly brawl just reinforced it.
It started raining while we were going through Africa, and around the chimp house it started pouring, so we broke out the umbrella (Greg left his on the bus, sadly, and we didn’t go back for it) and walked to the exit as fast as we could. So we missed some of the African exhibits, but I doubt the animals would have been out in the open anyway. (Plus we have a membership so we can go back whenever we want to!) And the camera’s battery died while we were watching the grizzlies, so it’ll have to be recharged before I can post anything.
Yesterday we got quite a bit of sleep, and I worked on the boobholder some more. I watched some cheesy movies on SciFi, and in the evening we got groceries, and I made some recipes for the medieval dinner party: sekanjabin, fried beans, Spanish mushrooms, and cherry pottage. The cherry pottage was very good. I haven’t worked up to actually tasting the sekanjabin yet – it’s a vinegar drink, and it smells pretty…bad, actually, if I’m going to be honest. And we brought the beans and mushrooms for lunch, so I’ll know later how they turned out. Tonight I’m making the soup, and I think that’ll be the last of the test-runs.
