I fucking hate that stupid tender crisp bacon cheddar ranch commercial. It is so gross on so many levels, but I’m really upset about its portrayal of gender roles/relations.
Grrrr.
On a more positive note, I found the camera! Picture time!!
These are what I’m ripping and redoing:

And here are: my first Cantata sock, Chalupa, and Skeeter.

I decided today would be for crafting and relaxing. So far, I’ve finished a sock out of the Cantata, and cast on (and knit a few rounds) for its mate. I also slept in, took two naps (one longish, one short), and gotten my workout on with Yourself! Fitness. (I’m really pleasantly surprised by how much I’m enjoying working out with it.)
So I’ve had some fat quarters sitting around for ages – I bought them to make reversible bags with. I think I’m going to make Jordy bags (I can’t seem to find the tutorial, but it’s on Craftster). But I don’t feel like sewing right now – I feel like sitting my ass on the couch and watching the boob tube. So I think what I’m going to do instead is have a little ripping party. I’ve got a couple sweaters that need redoing, and I’m not liking how Bad Penny looks (I started it back when I was twisting my stitches without realizing it).
I’m done blogging for now, because this stupid laptop keeps thinking I’m selecting text, and deleting it. GAH!
Y’all! I am SO EXCITED!!!!
I recently finished reading Inga Muscio’s Cunt for the first time (I know! I don’t know why it took me so long either), and LOVED IT! And I found out yesterday that’s she’s going to be speaking on campus the week after next!!! (And on International Women’s Day, no less.)
SO EXCITED!!!!!
I’m totally bringing my copy, in case she’s signing, and I’m considering knitting a cunt pin to give her. But I’m kinda on the fence right now about whether that would be too cheesy or not.
But I love Cunt, and you should all go read it!
JAY won!!!! All is right with the world.
Also, next week on Lost, they will finally! be showing the Hurley-centric episode I have so long awaited. Although I did enjoy last night’s episode (even if Jin decided to be a dumb poop in the end), especially when I saw Hurley on the television. That was a nice touch.
In knitting news, my favorite pair of pants have decided to start drooping more than normal. I’d like to chalk it up to my exercising, but I can’t really be sure. Anyway, so I got tired of having to pull them up all the time, but the only belt I had is in craptastic condition. So I knitted myself a belt – a little Red Heart, a little garter stitch, some size sevens, et voila. And it works pretty well. I’ve started another in seed stitch, and I’m thinking for this one I might get all fancy and add some d-rings, instead of just knotting it around my waist. I’m also meaning to make myself some sewn belts, because I’m getting all into this belt-making stuff. I really need to do my second breast-cancer wristwarmer, though, so I can finally be finished with this knit-along that has taken me so long to get around to. And it’s a good cause – so it’s dookie of me to be so slack. But I doubt it’ll happen tonight, because Greg and I are going to a class on home-buying. I hope it doesn’t suck.
I am such an asshole.
Jenn tagged me for the movie meme on the fourth, and I’m just now getting around to it.
The last movie you went to see in a theater: The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Unlike Jenn, I am a fan of Wes Anderson’s, and I didn’t like this movie. It wasn’t bad, and while it did have some funny moments and I love Willem Dafoe and Angelika Houston, the pacing felt off. For most of the movie I just felt like I was waiting…for something, I don’t know what. And it didn’t really feel cohesive to me, for some reason.
The last movie you watched at home: I’m watching Bullitt right now, mainly because nothing else that’s on really interested me. So far it’s okay. I also just got up from a nap, so I missed the first hour of the movie, but I feel like I’m able to follow it okay anyway. Day of the Jackal comes on after it, and I’m looking forward to that, since I’ve never seen it before and I’ve heard it’s good. The last two movies I watched at home before tonight were Sky Captain and The Forbidden Zone (a film made in 1980 by Richard Elfman). I feel obligated to mention these because I enjoyed Sky Captain, and I really enjoyed The Forbidden Zone. It’s a wacky little movie, and I highly recommend it. It’s seriously my new favorite. Oh shit. Bullitt just ended, and I really didn’t get a chance to figure out who all the corrupted characters were. Oh well.
How many movies do you own: I just did a rough count, and we’ve got about 109 on the shelf, but I’m willing to bet cash money there are more still in a box somewhere, and I know I’ve left one or two in the bedroom after I watched them, instead of returning them to the shelves in the living room. So I think the total must run around 120. I hadn’t realized we had that many. I mean, I can see that our shelves are full, but it hadn’t really sunk in. And that’s not counting the Weird Al video collections, or the exercise tapes, or the tv show boxed sets. Yeesh.
What was the last movie you bought: UHF as a Valentine’s present for Greg.
Got Netflix? Nope. I don’t really miss it. I can check out movies for free from the library – and not just academic movies, either. Greg’s answer to this question (for me) is “I get all the entertainment I need from the SciFi channel.” He likes to make fun of that. But I have to admit it’s true.
Five movies you adore/mean alot to you:
Playing by Heart
Foxfire (the 1996 version with Angelina Jolie)
Practical Magic
Gas Food Lodging
the Warlock movies
Guilty pleasure movie/genre: Any movie on SciFi. Also, I have a soft spot for bad movies.
And I’m going to be a spoilsport and not name anyone to pass this on to, because I think everyone else has done it by now. If you haven’t, feel free to consider yourself tagged.
In knitting news, I’ve finished knitting my first breast-cancer-awareness wristwarmer, and put the second on hold in order to knit a pair of socks for myself. I really like sock-knitting. Even though I’ve totally given myself a blister on my thumb, right where I hold the needle.
My friend Jen sent me this neat link to the Political Compass Questionnaire. I got “Economic Left/Right: -6.13 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -7.33,” which puts me in the fine company of Greg (no big surprise), Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and the Dalai Lama. (Woot!) I’m feeling a little puffed-up right now. But I did come out closer to anarchist than I would have guessed.
Friday, I finished the scarf for my mother, but forgot to take a picture of it before I gave it to her today. Hm. Maybe I can get a picture of it later. After finishing my mom’s scarf, I started a vagina pin for myself, to wear to the Vagina Monologues. We also played Dungeons and Dragons with the usual crowd. It was lots of fun, but my character died. Oh well.
Saturday, I enjoyed a leisurely sleeping-in, a restful day, finished my vagina pin, and then in the evening we saw the Vagina Monologues. It was one of the most beautiful, most moving things I’ve ever experienced. I’m so glad we went. And my friend Maya was fabulous, as were all the actresses. There’s really nothing I can say that can do justice to the performance, but if you haven’t seen it yet, or at least read it, you owe it to yourself to fix that. Also, the Vagina Monologues helped me get over my block with the breast cancer awareness wristwarmers I had started back in October. (I know!) Actually, it was knitting the wristwarmers for the Vagina Monologues that unblocked me. I realized that I didn’t have enough of the yarn to finish both ‘warmers if I continued with my original plan – which is convenient since the intarsia was proving to be too much for me, and was why I’d gotten stalled in the first place. So now I’m doing much simpler stripes (in pale pink and magenta), and I should be done with them in no time.
Today, Greg ran his game for us, and it was terribly fun. Now I’m watching Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow while I work on my ‘warmers, and I’m actually quite enjoying it. I knew I’d like the noir-ish feel, the lighting, and so on, but I’m enjoying the story as well.
Anyway, pictures. Here’s what I made for the Vagina Monologues raffle:

Here are: the vagina pin I made for myself, my wristwarmers in progress, and a shot of Skeeter very cutely but very improbably sleeping on his back. What a crackhead.

Holy fuck. Where have the Dresden Dolls been all my life?
Damn. They are amazing. And “Girl Anachronism” is my new favorite song of all time.
Last night, instead of working out like we had planned on, we went to Danny and Michel’s house for dinner. We had lots of yummy Greek-ish food. (They initially said Greek, but when we showed up it wasn’t like pastitsio or spanakopita or anything. It was really good, though.) I had a little too much, because I went home with a tummy-ache. Anyway, so there me and Greg are at home, hanging out between dinner at Danny and Michel’s and people coming over to watch Raw. And Greg says, “That was way more fun than working out.” And I say, “And now you know why I’m fat.” Hee.
I’ve finished knitting one set of wristwarmers, and a hoohoo, but haven’t seamed them yet. I’m working on the second pair of wristwarmers for the Vagina Monologues raffle. I’ve got til Thursday, so I think I’ll be okay.
