So, last Saturday, my mom came down to visit, and we went to Penang – this great Malaysian & Thai restaurant. I always get the thai green curry made with tofu instead of meat, because it’s too delicious to pass up. We also got their tofu satay, and for dessert, their ice kacang (and my mom also had their cheesecake). The ice kacang was delicious but HUGE – too much for us to finish. It’s like this snowcone sitting on corn, lotus jelly, and mushed up red beans, and the shaved ice is drenched in coconut milk, rose syrup, and something else. Delish! I also had their lychee drink, which was good and sweet, and had lychees at the bottom. (But I didn’t know how to gracefully fish them out, so I left them under the ice.)
So, today, my mom and my aunt came down to visit, and we went back to Penang, because my mom had liked it so much, and told my aunt about it. Huzzah! I had thai green curry again, of course, but for dessert I tried their peanut pancake – hot damn! Unbelievably good. It’s a pancake, cut into little rectangles for easy finger-eating, filled with this sweet peanut-corn mixture. And my aunt had their black sticky rice – it was called pulut hitam. Anyway – between the menu and our taste buds, it had black rice, red beans, and coconut milk, and probably some other stuff – it was damn good! Yum.
Then we went to Joann Fabrics, who was having a marvelous Memorial Day Weekend sale. My mom got some patterns and a cute pillow; my aunt got a flamingo for her front porch. I got the biggest haul: a crochet hook (size Q) and some Homespun for an afghan; some Sugar and Cream for washclothes; a pack of embroidery floss for embroidering (once I find where I stashed my Sublime Stitching patterns); some Stitch Witchery; a “fashion belt kit” – a prepackaged kit with d-rings, some webbing, and a ribbon; and six patterns. And, no, I didn’t find patterns for my peter pan collared shirt, or my secretary-ish bow-necked shirt. Doodoo. Oh well.
Later tonight, our friend Eric is celebrating his birthday (which was Thursday) with a karaoke party at his place. I’ll also (maybe) get to see his new kitten, Nigel, who apparently looks just like Skeeter, and is unbelievably adorable. (According to Greg, who came home drunk and raving about Nigel after the last time he and Eric hung out until the wee hours.)
Last night, I did indeed get my tattoo done, and it turned out beautifully. Greg and I ate at a new (to us) Indian restaurant, Dale’s on Ninth St., while I was awaiting my turn in Dogstar. Dale’s was pretty awesome – very delicious. Although I couldn’t eat much before the tattoo, I gobbled my malai kofta leftovers when we got home after. And devoured the left over aloo nan on the way home. We also stopped at Books on Ninth, so I could buy some books. Boy, did I. Then we went to see Kudzu Wish play at the 506, and they were AWESOME, as per usual.
The camera’s batteries appear to have died, so I’ll have to post pictures later, after I’ve replaced the batteries. I’m not doing it right now, because I’m about to go finish off my Penang leftovers, and then get my knit on.
