FOTD: Penelope’s Orchid, LOTS of blathering
FOTD first, blathering below. I’m getting fancy and naming this shit (for now, anyway). I give you Penelope’s Orchid – which was totally because Blix used the lipgloss in a look and I loved it and had to try it. (By the way, I need to sort them into categories but anyway – all the makeup/nail/looks/style blogs in my blogroll? Are all bloggers with mad style that do looks I’m constantly sighing over. Coupled with the fact that I’m so wishy-washy about colors until I see them *on* someone, I suspect there will be alot of “so, I saw Beautiful Awesome Blogger X use this product in a look, and I had to use it in a look, too.” Imitation, flattery, yada yada – it’s cool as long as I’m giving credit to who’s inspiring me, right? I hope so. Because y’all are putting together some amazing looks that I need to try.) Shit – did I say, “blathering below“? Whoops. Anyway, the FOTD, for reals:

There won’t be a FOTD for tomorrow, because I’ve got my first “real” EMDR session. (EMDR first discussed here, which you probably haven’t seen since I just now moved it over from the private blog I kept for a couple days to test out WordPress.) And while I’m not expecting it to be too intense (I hear that’s sessions 2-4), I don’t want to have anything on my face that might run if I end up crying. On a similar note, I’m removing my glorious fake nails that I’ve managed to keep on all week (a rarity for me – I’m so rough on nails, real or fake, and polish – just a big klutz, really), because I don’t want to start crying, go to wipe my eyes, and stab myself in the eye. Anyway, I was planning to take them off over the weekend and let my nails breathe a bit before I did something else, so it’s just bumping up a couple days. So I’ve got to take the nails off in a mo.
But! I’m also being very ambitious with my hair tonight, and touching up/redoing the green. The original green was Raw Colors from Hot Topic – I don’t remember the shade name, but they only had the one green, so, there you are. It was a real bitch to get out of the bottle, super fudgelike consistency. But it’s last two months, with regular frequency of shampooing. I have been using color protectant shampoos (mainly L’Oreal’s EverPure), but still, it’s going strong as when I first dyed it. But I didn’t feel like trekking out to Hot Topic (all the way out at the mall – which is actually only a couple minutes from the house, so I’m whining, but I don’t like going to the mall, crowds, social phobia, general disinclination to buy anything 99% of the shops have, yada yada), so I picked up some Adore Forest Green on the cheap when I was checking out a beauty supply shop last Friday. (I got to take an extra long lunch because I had worked a super long day Monday, so I stopped by People’s Beauty Supply in Chapel Hill/Carrboro. I like them, I’m just usually in Durham when I’m needing a beauty supply store, and too lazy to drive out, so I hit up the Sally’s that’s five minutes away. Anyhoodle! I do digress, don’t I?)
While I don’t mind somewhat uneven bleaching, because that just lends variation to the end result without my having to get all fancy with foils (because I’m too lazy usually), I didn’t like the idea of having most of my hair one shade of green, and my roots being a completely different shade – that’s too chunky and regulated a pattern for me. Ah – and I forgot to mention that’s why I have to redo the dye. NOT because the original dye had faded, quite the opposite. But because I had too much root showing to suit me. So here I am. I’ve used One ‘n Only ColorFix to strip out the previous green, and then bleached the roots. When I first went green, I used ColorFix for the first time ever, following Zoetica Ebb’s wondrous instructions on drastically switching between colors with such great effect. I stripped previous color, shampooed zealously for two weeks with volumizing shampoo, bleached, and dyed green. This time, I figured I’m just redoing green, and trying to get some amount of evenness between root and the rest of my hair, so if the bleach brings the first green back up a bit, no big deal.
Holy shit, she was not kidding about peroxide bringing colors back up. I’ve even seen it on my own head before, but not quite this glaringly obviously:
Exhibit A: post-color-stripping.

Yeah, get there. I think I’ve pretty much done every color in the rainbow, and most in multiple shades, except for orange and yellow. I don’t think I will be doing orange and yellow. Definitely not yellow from the looks of this – too warm for me. I am a Winter, y’all. (How silly is it that I know that? But I had to “get my colors done” for a wedding I was in when I was….eight? And I do tend to look sickly in warm colors.)
Exhibit B: I only applied bleach to the roots, but it must have come in contact when I flipped hair over to get to a new section of roots, or something, because look at that green!

It’s cool, though, because Forest Green is darker, so it should cover up and be more or less even. I just wanted to avoid a defined line around my rootline at my part, so…yeah.
I’ve got tons more pictures (knitting, baking, fake nails, cats, overdue Goth Monday attires) to post, but this is already long as shit, and I need to go do my nails, so I won’t be able to type. I’ll post pictures of the new green later, and other stuff. (Like the deliriously fantastic skirt I got in the mail today! Woo woo!) Later taters.

Ends 8/6/10!
