Book Meme Day 4
Day 04 – Your favorite book or series ever
This is a tough one, because I love a couple different series for different reasons. (I’m not even going to try to tackle my favorite book ever without, like, a year of long, hard thought. And even then…)
I love the Discworld series because they are so damn funny, and well-written, and just spot-on. I love how Terry Pratchett manages to sneak social commentary in there like a ninja, and you’re too busy laughing to realize you’re learning shit! Okay, maybe *you* copped on to it pretty quickly, but it took me a while before I got it.
I think this is actually an up-coming prompt, but the Anne of Green Gables series is totally my comfort reading. I re-read it every year, making it through the series to varying success, and even when it’s not one of the books I’m *actively* reading, I’ll frequently pick one of them up and read a bit, or just read my favorite passages. Actually, I think this is the only series (or books) I do that with – just, read an excerpt and be satisfied. (It really fucks with my OCD tendencies to not start at the beginning. I can leave a book unfinished if it’s bad enough, but skipping the beginning just doesn’t sit with me. And if it’s been long enough since I read a book, I *have* to start over at the beginning – even if I remember what’s already happened.)
And then there’s the Nightwatch/Dozor series. Sweet mother of god, do I love that series. I only recently (well, like, two years ago) finished the series, but I know I’ll re-read it over and over again. (Shit, while I was waiting for the last book to come out over here, I re-read the first three repeatedly to pass the time.) It’s just so wonderful on so many levels, and every time I read it I get something new out of it.
And I’m pretty sure Gail Carriger’s Parasol Protectorate is going to be one of my favorite series, too. It is badass and pitch-perfect. Everything I want out of a steampunky supernatural story. Waiting for Blameless is really, really difficult.

I really need to read Anne of Green Gables because I remember someone once saying that you either love Jane Eyre and hate Anne of Green Gables, or vice versa. And well, I fucking hated Jane Eyre >;D

This made me snort! I haven’t read Jane Eyre, but I did like Jasper Fforde’s The Eyre Affair, so Jane Eyre is on my bookshelf, waiting to be read. It’ll probably be there even longer before I get around to it, now, since I’ll probably hate it, too.
