Kindle cozy! and Alstroemeria!

July 28, 2010 at 11:00 pm (blather, crochet, make, read)

Some lovely Peruvian lilies Greg gave me this week:

They’re my favorite. :) I really need to plant some – they’re supposed to be extremely hardy in our zone.

And I finished my Kindle cozy tonight, while watching True Blood with Greg.

More book meme! Day 2

July 28, 2010 at 6:00 am (read)

Day 02 – A book or series you wish more people were reading and talking about.

Easy! Sergei Lukyanenko’s Nightwatch/Dozor series. So very, very fantastic on so many levels. You can totally read it for pure pleasure, but there’s plenty of depth and thought-provoking stuff, too.

Haflaween! Haflaween! HAFLAWEEN!

July 27, 2010 at 6:54 pm (celebrate, sing praises, watch, wiggle)

Haflaween, bitches! HELL YES! I’ve already got my tickets, and pre-ordered a dvd of this year’s Haflaween. And after I get caught up on watching shit off the dvr (Deadwood, Leverage, and Rizzoli & Isles, I’m looking at you), I’m going to watch the shit out of last year’s dvd. I cannot wait for October 30th! It will be rad! I’m trying to convince everyone I know to go, so, if you’re in the Triangle area, details and tickets are right here.

The shrill scream and yip right when the music starts? That would be me. I also threw goat horns at the same time, at a family-friendly event (but Sara & Emily threw them in their performance, so….I think it was okay), but I’m seated off-camera to the left, so you don’t see my arms. (I didn’t want to disturb anyone by flipping shit at the beginning of the performance, but it was Iron Maiden so, you know, shit HAD to be flipped. Nothing I could do about it.) Anyway, this also happens to be my favorite performance from last year. But all the performances were great. I am SO PSYCHED for this year’s – is it October yet? How about now? …Now? No? Three months away? Dammit.

FOTD: Yoink! (7/27/10)

July 27, 2010 at 6:24 pm (blather, crochet, FOTD, make, preen, wiggle) (, , , , , )

That is the sound of me ganking a look from Faeries Stole My Lipstick!. This look to be precise. Or maybe I should say “borrowing” or “trying” instead of “ganking,” since it turned out a bit different, since I forgot to use Pixie Epoxy and a white waterliner. But I liked it anyway, so, yay!

In other news, today it was awesome and rainy! Stormy! Loved it! Jillian Michaels’ 30-day shred is continuing to bring the pain. And I am soooooo close to being done with my Kindle cozy. That lipstain is seriously emphasizing either freckles on my lips, or chapped areas. (It looks like chapped areas in the picture, but I don’t see them in real life – so, freckles? Extra pigmentation?) Also, my skunk blush brush is seriously misbehaving – it’s not really giving me clown cheeks yet, but it seems to refuse to be cleaned, and holds onto pigment forever no matter what I try. I’m going to watch some brush-cleaning tutes or something, see if there’s anything else to try – but I suspect it’s just that it’s a cheap brush, and it’s going to stain itself. As long as I don’t get clown cheeks, I think I’ll make do.

30 days of books, starting now

July 27, 2010 at 11:07 am (blather, read)

From Viva Love! via Lily of the Valley comes a book meme that initially scared me off with some difficult-to-pick-just-one-book questions, but I’ve decided to give a go. All the questions/prompts are below the cut, in case you’re interested (and if you do it yourself, let me know, so I can be nosey and find more books to add to my infinite to-read list).

Today’s prompt is: A book series you wish had gone on longer OR a book series you wish would just freaking end already (or both!)

This was the first prompt that gave me pause, and I couldn’t think of anything to say – and then today the obvious answer floated into my head. I REALLY wish Sayers had written more Lord Peter Wimsey (& Harriet Vane – love her!) books and that Allingham had written more Campion books – actually, I kind of love the Campion stories even more than the Wimsey/Vane stories.

A book series that I wish would just freaking end already? Easy, as long as it doesn’t have to be a series I’ve actually read myself: those damn Twilight books. Can they fall into the Well of Lost Plots already? Jesus christ. My main gripe is that the primary relationship is SO DYSFUNCTIONAL and stalker-y, and yet teenagers/young adults/tweens reading these books – and even some adults I know – think this is the most romantic thing ever. Nope, sorry, it’s fucked up, is what it is. If someone stole into my room to watch me sleep without my knowledge nor my permission, that someone would get their balls cut off, by moi. Not fucking cool. And the whole “you’re my one true love, but we can’t ever touch” – fucking lame and just really sad. It makes me really sad that anyone would ever find that a model of a good relationship, and perhaps use it to set standards for their own relationships. And that’s to say nothing of the whole “you’re my one true love, but we can’t ever touch BECAUSE I WOULD KILL YOU” thing.

All 30 prompts below.

WAAAAAAAAAANT!!!!!!!!!!!

July 27, 2010 at 10:08 am (squee, watch)

Oh my god. WANT! Attention, darling husband: I neeeeeeeeeeeed one of these so very badly. PLEASE?! Even more than chickens, or a smaller cow in the front yard. Just one of these. Oh my jesus.

(Thank you, Cute Overload and Barbarellaf for bringing this wonderful cuteness into my life. I’m sure Greg is hating on you now, though, because he’s about to hear all about how badly I NEED a piglet for, oh, months.)

Stuff and nonsense – gossipy catchup

July 26, 2010 at 6:54 pm (blather, Chalupa, crochet, etch, knit, make, nerd out, pets, sew)

If you’re only here for makeup, skip this post. If you’re here because, like me, you are a nosey parker, then you might like to keep reading. It’s just a general discussion of what’s been going on lately, with some pictures of cats thrown in. Maybe like a chatty weekend review, except on Monday? Mostly a lot of crafts discussion, and photo heavy.

FOTD: Adina (7/26/10)

July 26, 2010 at 5:55 pm (blather, FOTD, NOTD, preen, sing praises) (, , , , , , )

Yesterday evening, Mel and Jess came over, and we watched Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Resident Evil: Extinction, and hung out and shit. I also painted my fingernails with Zoya Adina, which is just simply lovely and stunning. I didn’t think I was all that crazy for duochromes, I thought I “kind of liked them” – WRONG. I can’t stop staring at my nails, and I am fascinated by the different flashes of color (mainly kind of a greenish color or purplish – but occasionally rosy pink, or a hint of blue). So picking out colors this morning was pretty much a no-brainer: an Adina-inspired look. And finally wound up with a purple and green(-ish) combo that I actually really like. :)

Close-ups, details, and two more pictures of Adina in an attempt to catch its different flashes follow.
