Ugh, so much to catch up on, again, kind of.

December 17, 2010 at 11:14 am (blather, Chalupa, hair, pets, preen)

Chalupa’s new collar: YES, DUST SPRITES!!! (Or Soot Sprites.) Agggh, the cuteness! I know she really wanted more skulls, because she’s hard like that, but once I saw this I had to executive-decision her ass. Sorry, ChaCha.

And the new hair. It’s Garnier HerbaShine Deep Burgundy, but it came out more like black-purple. Which is totally fine with me. :D

And here I’ve pinned up/back the section I’m thinking of razoring down, so it’s kind of like what it’ll look like once it’s done, I think. Except a little wispier? I don’t know exactly. But it’s an approximation. My left ear won’t have any hair to hide behind, poor thing. :) Greg is not into this idea, as it turns out. But…it’s just hair, it’ll grow back. (Although I’m not exactly sure how to grow out basically shaved down hair while the rest is long without it looking pretty weird. And weird in an un-deliberate way. When it’s razored down, I think it’ll look like an obvious hairstyle choice, you know?) Anyway. With the new color, and the part, and the way the bangs hang, I think it’s practically screaming for me to go ahead and chop that shit off. (And honestly, if I don’t do it now, when? I like to think age doesn’t affect my decisions – but I probably would not be considering this if I was, say, ten years older.) I’ve been wanting something like this since I saw the first Resident Evil movie, so….probably time to do it and get it out of my system. (And then spend forever growing that section out once I get tired of it, right? Oh well.)

Soup Thursday: Southwestern Fresh Corn Stew

December 17, 2010 at 10:58 am (blather, eat)

From Nava Atlas’s Vegetarian Soups for All Seasons:

Another damn good soup/stew! (I feel like, statistically speaking, with each successful, tasty Soup Thursday, the chances of the next one being a complete bomb increase exponentially. I mean, there has to be a dud in the group, right?)

Homage: Jewels of the Senzan Empire

December 16, 2010 at 10:46 pm (blather, copy/homage, eat, FOTD, hair, preen) (, , , , , , )

So…this is my version of Ms. Pixie’s Jewels of the British Empire look. Except I don’t have any of the Victoria’s Revenge shadows, so I subbed in other Aromaleigh shadows that I thought would make good stand-ins. Spark was kind of a surprise – I’ll show you why below, with the detail pics. And right after I did this, I dyed my hair, so this is the last mermaidy pic. For a while at least. And these are the jewels of the Senzan Empire, because I recently finished reading Johannes Cabal the Detective, and am still loving it and wanting another JC book already. (And Senza is a country featured in the book. And they’re miles better than Mirkarvia.) And pretend my eyebrows aren’t even there. I really need to do something about them. But not tonight.

Belated Soup Thursday, for real this time

December 14, 2010 at 3:23 pm (blather, eat, sing praises)

Beer and Maple Lentil Stew, which also has bacon in it. I subbed in vegetable broth for the beef broth, and Light Life’s Fakin’ Bacon tempeh strips (*my* favorite bacon substitute) for real bacon, but otherwise followed the recipe. Oh, and I added about a tablespoon of vegetable oil when I was sauteing the “bacon,” celery, carrot, onion, etc, because Fakin’ Bacon doesn’t have fatty bits that make oil when you heat them like real bacon does.

Before adding the beer, broth, maple syrup, lentils, and spices:

Final, SCRUMPTIOUS product:

Final verdict? Put it this way: there were *zero* leftovers. :D

Catch-up, and belated Soup Thursday

December 14, 2010 at 3:15 pm (blather, boggle, celebrate, eat, hang out, heal, laugh, love, sing praises, squee, thank)

Y’all! Damn. Modern medicine is INSANE. No lactation yet, but I have turned into a goddamn zombie.

Actually, let me put Soup Thursday in another post. This shit is kind of gross. I’ll put it under the cut, too.

Medicine/zombie flesh/zombification below.

FOTD: Gilded Opal (12/03/10)

December 4, 2010 at 5:24 pm (blather, FOTD, hair, NOTD, preen) (, , , , , )

Taking a break from our regularly scheduled copying programming for a dead-horse-beating special. I put this on to go to a friend’s birthday celebration, but it didn’t really even get started til midnight, and I was too sickly and passing out to end up going. :( I had three fillings yesterday afternoon, and I don’t think it makes much sense, but the anaesthetic seems to have made me super woozy. I went straight to bed after dinner (so, around 6ish) slept til 9 (I *never* take more than a 1.5 hour nap), “got ready,” put on makeup, managed to stay up til 11:30, passed the fuck out. Slept soundly through the night until 10:30, just barely managed to get my shit together to go to dance class. Which was AWESOME since it was just me and Sara and she gave me a lot of feedback, both about what I was doing slightly wrong and what I was doing great already. So yay! I intended to go into work afterwards and make up time from yesterday, but it’s snowing like crazy. It’s not sticking to the roads, but snow makes me nervous, so I’m chilling at home, with a bunch of candles going, all snuggly and watching Da Vinci’s Inquest. I think later it’s going to be time for a Myrna Loy marathon and knitting. Or maybe sewing. And I ain’t leaving the house for shit tonight. I don’t care if it’s not getting down to freezing til 6am. Fuck it. Anyway, here’s the super ambitious, kind of draggish look I put together. Still like it, though. :)

Night before last, for some reason I decided to put pincurls in. I think I really like how they turned out. I’m feeling Rita Sue’s style these days (even though it’s not very practical for cold-ass weather), and pincurls kind of suit. I was tired as shit Friday morning when I took the pictures, though, so…that explains the face.

And here’s the look from last night:

Closeups below and a shot of my current nails: Gray-T Glamour, kind of loving it.

Soup Thursday: Potato, Cheese, and Green Chili Soup

December 2, 2010 at 9:18 pm (blather, eat)

To quote Greg, “This is goddamn good!”

Recipe’s from Nava Atlas’s Vegetarian Soups for All Seasons. Maybe a bit similar to a potato chowder, with quite a bit of vegetables (corn, tomatoes, green chilis, green bell pepper, garlic, onion), and a Southwestern twist. But not too spicy for me, as the recipe goes. (Greg can always add heat, so I’m appreciative of recipes that start on the milder side and allow you to adjust as needed.) Made some cornbread muffins to go with it – the whole dinner was even better when I got the bright idea to crumble some cornbread *into* the soup. Yum yum!

Homage of the Day: Olinda of the Seelie Court (12/01/10)

December 1, 2010 at 8:45 pm (blather, copy/homage, FOTD, hair, preen, wear) (, , , , , )

True story: This look of Ms. Pixie’s was the raison d’etre of my lookstocopy tumblr. The very first look I saw and was like, “Shit, I *have* to do that some day, so I’ll save it in my tumblr for future reference.” Seemed like the logical place to start once I decided to mine looks from that tumblr. And I’m so glad I did! It’s a fun look, and a very pretty look. Here’s my take on it. The first picture is without flash, because I was rather heavy-handed with the Fluff, and while it looked great in real life, with flash it looked a little powdery.

More pictures, and then more blathering below.
