Hogswatch!

January 18, 2011 at 9:10 pm (blather, card and board games, celebrate, drink, eat, FOTD, hang out, play, preen) (, , , )

We pushed the celebration back two weeks, since there were several New Year’s parties already. And we didn’t play Cripple Mr. Onion, but it was a success nonetheless!

The pignata head presided over the festivities. Up close, Zoe wasn’t so sure of it, but at a bit of a distance, she liked to put the felt heart back in it. Pretty cute, that kid!

Tag: seven facts about me

January 18, 2011 at 8:53 pm (blather)

The lovely Heather over at Eyeconic Makeup tagged me, so here are seven facts about me:

1. I’m currently obsessed with Married with Children. So good!
2. Also on the Bundy tip, when I was younger, I wanted Kelly’s wardrobe. These days, I’m eyeing up Peggy’s.
3. I keep thinking I should come up with some sort of coherent personal style, rather than the hodge-podge I currently have. I can’t decide between “Mommy drinks” and “post-apocalypse dystopia.” And then there’s the comfort of “hobo chic” and “jeans and a tshirt.” What to do, what to do.
4. Sometimes I feed Skeeter earwax. (What, he really likes it.)
5. I kind of badly want to get a sample of Etat Libre d’Orange’s Secretions magnifiques. Even though I’m sure it’d make me gag, and I’d probably keep sniffing it from time to time to remember *just* how bad it was.
6. I’m an incorrigible nail-biter. And when I was little, I used to bite my toenails, too. (Ew.)
7. I’m in a fledgling ukulele band. We start practicing this Friday, and I’m nervous as hell, but also excited.

And I’ll tag:
Lips Tits Teeth Hips
Blab About Beauty
Clever Endeavor
Cosmetic Viking
Fashioned in Finland
Funny Face’s Place
Makeup Zombie
Martian Delights
Nukleopatra
Principessa Grassa
and anyone else who feels like sharing! :)

FOTD: Njörðr and the sea (1/13/11)

January 13, 2011 at 4:20 pm (blather, FOTD, heal, preen) (, , , , , , )

Last night I asked Greg what I should do on my eyes today, and he requested a “muted deep blue.” I couldn’t really find a *muted* deep blue in my stash, so I went with my Wet n Wild Lagoon, since I hadn’t used it yet. I thought Fyrinnae’s Njordr might be good for a crease color, and I do like them together, but my blending needs work. Oh well. And as it turns out, Njörðr is one of the Norse Vanir, and is associated with the sea and seafaring (among other things). (Also, eth is one of my favorite letters.)

FOTD: Beating the plague (1/12/11)

January 12, 2011 at 9:12 pm (blather, FOTD, heal, preen) (, , , , )

I don’t know what the fuck this bug is, but it is knocking bitches out left and right, even when it doesn’t develop into a sinus infection. (Which it did with me – and actually, I kind of prefer that to it dragging on and on for months, which, oh, it kind of did also. Yay, shitty seasonal allergies!) Whatever, it’s pretty much gone, and I am feeling soooo much better! Good riddance. I’m sorry for everyone who’s just now coming down with it, though. Bleacch.

But feeling better – and more specifically, no more weepy, gross eyes – means it’s makeup time! YAY!

Current loves

January 11, 2011 at 12:18 pm (bitch, blather, heal, NOTD, preen, sing praises) (, , )

Since my camera is acting up, and I haven’t been playing with makeup lately, I thought I’d share what I’ve been *loving* lately, and what’s been helping me not feel so shitty while the sinus infection had its way with me. :) Time for a rousing game of “pictures I snagged off Google Images” (in other words, I didn’t take these pictures, but I hope no one minds if I use them – they all seem to be promotional images).

For severely, chapped-to-bleeding, chapped noses; fixes that with a *quickness*!

For keeping chapped lips moisturized while drinking crazy amounts of water (for some reason, the rosebud salve just couldn’t keep up on my lips).

I don’t know if the immediate better feeling I get from this is psychosomatic, or if Pelargonium sidoides is actually helping, and I don’t care. All I care about is I feel better, and I actually like the taste quite a bit. (Although alot of people think it’s nasty.)

Great for convincing me it really is worth it to drag my sorry, half-dead carcass into the tub for a bath, and then risk freezing my balls off when I get out; the luxe smell and the plush feel equal twenty minutes of bliss.

Last but not least, the first makeup-related product I’ve ever thought I needed a back-up for: Paul & Joe’s limited edition 2010 nail polish in Sonata.

And here I thought the pink one (C 003, Classical) was kind of pretty, but nothing super duper special. The “beige-y, sparkly one” has completely bowled me over. While I was languishing on the couch last night, trying desperately to find something I both wanted to knit and had the mental wherewithal to knit, I ended up getting petulant and frustrated (of course), and gave up to paint my nails. (I’ve been on a real girly, vintage kick lately – very much, “Must not go out with stray brows or chipped polish!” It’s weird. And pincurls every night, oh yes.) I decided to try the other Paul & Joe polish I’d gotten, and oh my! One coat is PERFECTION! I just couldn’t stop staring at it. So pretty and girly and the right mix of subtle yet eye-catching! Cheered me right up! And then I decided to do a second coat. It’s still cute, but it’s much more noticeable now, and – dare I say it – I think it’s slid into tacky territory. And since when has that ever bothered me? Never, but it’s not quite the vibe I want right now, for some reason. (I feel like, especially with this haircut, the words “over the top” really don’t hold any weight with me. And yet, I’m bothered by the second coat of polish to the point of taking it off later tonight and repainting so it’s just one glorious coat.) Anyway, YES, YES, YES to this! I LOVE IT! And I’m definitely getting a back-up bottle. I couldn’t bear to run out. (I don’t really know if it’s that unique a color – maybe it’s not, actually, but *I* don’t have anything like it in my stash, or know of exact dupes, so…a second bottle of Sonata it is.)

FO soon!

January 10, 2011 at 7:53 pm (bitch, blather, heal, knit, make)

I finally finished my Twinkleberry socks! They are super cute, but, um, I’m too busy wearing them and having a sore throat and being puny to take pictures. Soon, though, I promise. Now I’m just trying to figure out what to start next. I was thinking something vintage, or a sweater/vest/jacket of some sort, or a vintage sweater/vest/jacket – but every time I find something pretty, my eyes glaze over when I get to the nitty gritty. I’m not deathly ill, but not in the mood for heavy thinking right now. I guess I’ll start another pair of socks – just don’t know what pattern yet.

It’s sleeting, boo. And my eyes have been kind of weepy while I’ve been sick, and aren’t quite over that disgustingness, so I figure sticking eyeliner in them would be a horrendously bad idea. So no playing with makeup either. BOO. If I’m miserably ill, like, too ill to do anything other than lie in bed and wish I would either fall asleep or die, either one, you know, then I’m alright, and I can kind of cope. Or at least lay there totally silently. Once I start feeling better, but still kind of ill, I get so whiny! I’m just impatient to do shit, but I’m not completely up to snuff yet, so I can’t actually do alot of the shit I want to. And then I whine. Anyway, sock time.
