Soup Thursday, 2/24/11: Macaroni and Cheese Soup
Since we’re “everything whole grain” these days, we used whole grain pasta shells. It’s pretty delicious – but it hits your stomach like a ton of goddamn bricks! If you make it, I would recommend starting with about half a bowl first, and then wait and see. We both had a “normal” bowl of soup – like, our usual starting amount for soup? I’m not sure what the measurement is. Anyway, we ate, and it was good, and then about five, ten minutes later, we were both like, “…WHOA.” But smaller amounts of the leftovers have been good to us.
And it’s more…mac-and-cheese-inspired-soup, than it is mac-and-cheese-soup. Which is definitely good.

FOTD: Otherworldly (2/23/11)
I wanted to try out the black primer I got from Darling Girl, and I thought Fyrinnae’s Otherworld might look good over it. I was not disappointed – I love, love, love! Otherworld over a black base.

FOTD: 2/22/11
I liked these two shadows together in their jars, next to each other. Actually on my eyelids? Not entirely sold, to be honest. They’re each really, really pretty (I mean, what do you expect, they’re Fyrinnae), but I just don’t know about the combo. It’s growing on me slowly, though. Maybe if I’d just done Love Potion in the inner corners, and Kimchi everywhere else? Or maybe I was thinking of Avian Shapeshifter, but picked Love Potion by mistake? I’ve been a bit addled lately, who knows.

FOTD: Glitterbomb (2/21/11)
This low-carb thing is still whooping my ass, so I decided I needed sparkly makeups to cheer me up. So of course I reached for my Fyrinnae stash.
(Although Pixie Epoxy is still giving me some trouble, since I almost never use it. But the only way to get better is keep at it, right?) I made it through about half the day before having to go home and pass the fuck out (I was ZONKED!), so this is after about five and a half hours of wear. And I couldn’t seem to get those gorgeous gold-y sparkles in Sugar Skulls to be quite as apparent (read: in-yo-face) as I wanted, so I just packed some Reflects Pearl on top. I think I would’ve liked gold glitter better, but…don’t have any, so.

No Swatch Sunday today
I think I missed it two weeks ago, and I feel bad for missing it again so soon – but not half as cruddy as this whole low-carb thing is making me feel right now. “Going through withdrawal,” too right. It is whooping my ass. Can’t wait to get past this shit.

Soup Thursday, 2/17/11: the best soup EVER
In my opinion, anyway. Greg thinks it’s “definitely up there,” but not the definitive best. And holy crap, do I love barley. I had no idea.

A friend passed me this recipe when she heard I was changing up my diet (due to the hypoglycemia/pre-diabetes kick in the arse), and I’m not sure where she originally came across it herself, so I’m just going to slap the recipe up here in case you want it. It’s SUPER DUPER AMAZING DELICIOUS.
mushroom and lentil and barley soup.
2 cups button mushrooms, sliced (1 small package)
1-2 oz shiitake mushrooms, diced
3/4 cup pearled barley, dry
3/4 cup lentils, dry
2 quarts vegetable broth
2 tsp minced garlic
1/4 cup onion flakes
2 tsp dried summer savory
1 tsp dried basil
3 bay leaves
1 tsp ground black pepper
2 beef bouillon cubes (**I used vegetable bouillon instead)
salt to taste (**I completely omitted salt, and it turned out perfect. I think the bouillon gives it a saltiness?)
Combine all ingredients in a 4-quart slow cooker. Cook on low for 10-12 hours or on high for 4-6 hours. With one hour left in cooking, add 1 cup of water. Don’t forget to take out the bay leaves before you eat it.
Makes 4 large servings, about 2.5 cups each.

Ugh. Shit’s been so busy (and more on the “real” side of things – as in, shit’s getting real) lately, that I haven’t put on makeup in a while. I did have a go at recreating one of my all-time favorite looks: Pixie’s Plenty O’ Hearts look. I finally got the sample sets of Aromaleigh’s Wonderstruck, Astronomical, Mythos, and Spells Collections – which is great for me, since I’m so bad at matching shades to sub in for stuff I don’t have. So now I can do tons of looks I’ve been admiring, and I decided to start with Pixie’s glorious pink and red one. But Pass the Tarts conspired with Pixie Epoxy to best me, so I wiped it off without taking pictures.
Anyway, I’m in the mood to put on makeup, and I think now I’ll actually have some time to do it, so back to regular programming soon, yay! And a new soup on Thursday.
