FOTFA: Face of the Farting Around :) (8/31/11)
I didn’t get a chance to wear makeup to work today, but I wanted to play with it, hence “farting around.” I’ve recently, and successfully, bleached out the remaining green in my hair, and dyed it orange (specifically, Special Effects Napalm Orange). I’ve never had orange hair before, as orange is quite a bit outside my comfort zone, and I didn’t think it would go well with my skintone. But I’m finding that I quite like it. Which is a bit problematic, as the original plan was to dye it orange then red over top, so the red wouldn’t fade to a pink. Only now I’m thinking maybe I’ll hold off on going red, and enjoy the orange for a bit. Decisions, decisions. I also wasn’t sure what makeup to wear with bright orange hair, so I asked my fellow Makeup Hero ladies for suggestions. (And if you’ve got suggestions and/or requests, let me know! I’m not sure how long I’ll keep this orange, but I do want to have fun with it, makeup-wise, while it’s around.) Their suggestions? Whatever the fuck I want – which is always what I’ve figured “went” with funky colored hair. (I mean, it already looks unnatural, so why bother trying to have makeup that doesn’t “clash,” right?) Green eyes and lips, so I look like a flower – 
. Purple. And most definitely red lipstick looks for days, particularly MAC Lady Danger. Well, I don’t have Lady Danger, but Revlon’s Fire and Ice is supposedly a (non-matte) dupe for it, so I picked that up. And that’s what I played with tonight. Actually, it looks a bit pinky-red to me, but I suspect that’s the nearness of the Napalm Orange making it read that way, instead of an orange-y-red? Also, I got to wear an AMAZING dress today (at least until I came home and exercised) – but I’m going to post that for tomorrow’s TiLT post. FOTD: Alluring Seafoam Shadow
I’ve been catching up on fashion magazines – I’ve got a couple subscriptions, but haven’t been reading them for a while. I don’t really “read” the magazines, it’s more that I flip through them and rip out whatever catches my eye, and then put those pages in sleeves in a notebook for later inspiration. One of the features that caught my eye was from an Allure (unfortunately I didn’t have the presence of mind to note which particular issue, but not more than about four months old, I’d say) feature on Fall recommendations by Tom Pecheux. I really liked several of the looks, but particularly the “Seafoam Shadow” look, one version of which used CoverGirl products. I had the eyeshadow, but not the lipstick – the editorial used Eternal, and I subbed in Smitten.

FOTD: Buttercream Macaron (8/23/11)
Wanted to play with some of the colors I got in my first Sweet Treat Cosmetics order. I think they’re super cute! I got the full-size of the week (Cupcake), a sample set (buy five, get two free), a couple more samples, and got one or two free samples. (Two, I think, but I tossed the packing slip so I can’t be sure. I’ll look the order up later and edit this to post for sure, but not right now.) I feel like I’ve been doing alot of pinkish looks lately, so I figured I’d try blue instead. I like it, and I loooooove the Buttercream Gloss. My only tiny complaint is that some of the shades on the sample baggies are hard to read. They seem to be the same color as the shadows (which is a cute idea), but that means if there’s any shadow under the shade name, the shade name disappears.

London rioting :((
Very upset and worried and angry about rioting in London. Mainly because, while I think I understand the legitimate underlying sentiment (ie, unrest, unhappiness, injustice – not just “I’m a selfish fucker and want to loot”), it seems obvious and apparent to me that the rioters are attacking the very people they should be *organizing with*. Heard an interview with two female rioters/looters, who seemed to think this was showing the police *and* rich people that “we can do what we want.” Oh really? So that’s why there’ve been so many reports of police stations and rich businesses and rich households being looted? Oh, wait – y’all have been looting in middle class neighborhoods, and looting family-owned, small businesses? Y’all are assholes, for real, and morons. Rioting accomplishes nothing positive. So heartsick over this shit. But, on the plus side, the communities coming together to clean up the aftermath gives me hope. And the people I know and care about over there are safe, so I’m trying to stay calm. My thoughts are with London, and hoping for an end to this craziness, and as minimal damage and injury to human life as possible. And hoping that these rioters realize that they do have alot of power – and that it just needs to be channeled properly. Protests and activism with those numbers, I think could accomplish ALOT. Talks, etc. Rioting? No. You’re just destroying communities, and communities you could be building coalitions with, and undermining whatever cause you’re claiming underlies these riots. Anyway. Hoping for a safe day and night for London, and that things calm down and get sorted soon.
In the meantime, am glued to BBC, The West Londoner’s riot coverage, facebook, and twitter to stay updated and make sure my duckies are alright. May not have the heart, or, rather, the lightness of heart, to post for a bit, but we’ll see. My supply of hope is taking a hit, but my smartassery tank is full to brimming, so….I’ll get through this. And *we’ll* get through this. I’ll be around, just maybe preoccupied with things more important than makeup (blasphemy!) for the time being. xoxo, k
TiLT!: 8/4/11
It’s only been about…what…two weeks since I did the last one of these? I guess that’s not too bad. But I’ve been SUPER cranky and irritable lately (nicotine patch + PMS = mega bitch Kathy, fyi), and paying attention to, and taking note of, stuff that makes me happy, and then processing that in these type of posts, really helps my entire week have a better glow to it. So. Let’s see if I can get better about keeping this shit up regularly. Here we go:
-overhearing an *in-depth* discussion of threesomes (inside voices, y’all, really, at all times, if you don’t want to be overheard discussing this shit – but it was awesome, and TMI, and hilarious, and right-on; one of the two talkers was like, “NO. Straight-up:no. The logistics are a nightmare, and no one wants to be the one standing to the side, waiting.” And I was thinking, “….right?! (mental high-five)” because that’s what I’ve always thought.)
-passing a little boy in a Target parking lot, only to have him freak out trying to get his dad’s attention because he thought I was the Wicked Witch (awesome!)
-fireflies, always
-fireworks
-a horse-drawn carriage giving people rides in downtown Durham
-Marie Antoinette/Helena Bonham Carter-inspired hair (made possible by the awesomely awesome Osis Dust It, and like four bobby pins, seriously! love Osis!):

-Bull McCabe’s – awesome bar, awesome food (veggie quesadillas SO FUCKING GOOD), and they saved me from starvation (okay, really, a blood sugar crash and ensuing bitchiness – so actually they saved everyone that night)

-holding a tiny frog, and returning him from a corner on our porch (where he seemed confused and trapped) to the grass (where he seemed much happier)
-being able to (on occasion, and more deliberately) respond to triggers from a place of calmness, respect, and compassion (rather than unconsciously and immediately flipping the “bitch switch”)
-putting up a swanky new hummingbird feeder, and then being outside and wishing I could see a hummingbird – and having TWO immediately show up; one later sat on a tree branch and sang for about five minutes – magical!
-playing Thunderstone with Jj, who pwned us hard
-seeing a grrl in a tshirt that read “Pretty in Pink, Wicked in Spandex” (just made me laugh, really, but in a good way)
-the universe sending me great medicine on a day I needed it most: having wonderful chats with a distant coworker I’ve just met and really like; my new Queen Frostine I Stand with Planned Parenthood Pink Icing Ring arriving; hummingbirds AND bats; thunderstorms; and Greg – I’m truly blessed
-that moment when you finally figure out the answer to something that’s been troubling you, and you know you’re on the right path because of the unwinding in your chest
-dragons treatment
-acupuncture & therapy & the universe sending me feathers when I’m on the right track (I swear, every time I make a “break through,” or shitty things finally start to turn around, I find a feather on the ground that day)
-D&D!
-a date with Greg at Dos Perros! delicious! and soooo indulgent!
-casual steampunk – a grrl at a show in stealth steampunk: unobtrusive little clues, like goggles that aren’t ornate and look at first glance like glasses; a pencil stuck into her bun; overall dress; simple boots; simple and practical – but then you put it together and are like, “duh, steampunk fan right hurr!” loved it
-Fat Transfer – AMAZING MUSIC/PERFORMANCE/LYRICS/MESSAGE – loved it, now you go love it (also, check out this awesome, right-on post; look at the heart and brains and compassion on that lady, new grrl crush, swoon) (AND, right now she’s on tour with Cher Horowitz, so you might maybe kind of sort of NEED to go, if there’s a show near you, just sayin’)
-Earth Balance – a vegan cover band that killed it, so hilarious
-being part of the Makeup Heroes Collab YT channel – I definitely feel like, skillz-wise, I’m a total noob in this group, but it’s so much fun, and I like being challenged/pushed to be more imaginative and improve my skillz, so yay!
