FOTD: Karaoke Fairy (9/16/11)

September 19, 2011 at 8:36 pm (blather, FOTD, hang out, preen, sing) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I am kind of ridiculously in love with this look. With the circle lenses, the headband, the crazy eyelashes (which I got for one buck at a thrift store and they had thousands of them – SO going back for more, holy shit), the lip color. I wore it to karaoke last Friday, and had a blast.

Pretty funny, but also sad.

September 16, 2011 at 12:59 pm (boggle)

Apparently, I get at least one hit a day from someone finding my blog by searching “kathy fucking.” I could probably dig deeper into my stats and figure out where/who it is, and if it’s the same person each time, but I’m lazy.

1-I find this amusing. “kathy fucking.” Awesome. Hi, welcome to my blog! Although the only porn you’re likely to find on here is of the makeup, vanity, and cat-butt variety (so I can make the ATROCIOUS “kitty pron” pun; which, yes, I totally, shamelessly, did).

2-If you ARE honestly looking for *my* blog, though, come on, now. You’ve got two thirds of the url already. You just have to remember “jacobs,” tack a “.com” on it, and Bob’s your uncle. So I really, really hope whoever’s repeatedly searching “kathy fucking” is looking for some pornstar named Kathy something-or-other, fucking, and not this blog, because if you’ve searched that phrase for the last 30 days and arrived here, and you can remember “kathy” and “fucking” but not “jacobs”? A bit sad.

For the sake of humanity,

September 16, 2011 at 12:00 am (ask, celebrate, read, share, sing praises)

go read this blog post. If you haven’t already. Or even if you have already, it’s that good. (And how rad is that pie chart? Amazeballs.)

I am probably preaching to the choir, since I’m posting this on my blog, and have shared it on facebook. Chances are, if you have anything remotely to do with me and/or my internet spoutings, you’re pro-marriage-equality. Otherwise, how do you even stand reading my shit? You must be a masochist. ;) I kid, a bit. I know I’m pretty much a bleeding heart liberal (at the same time I’m a crotchety, misanthropic, old curmudgeon – but really, that’s mostly an unsuccessful act to hide my big old inner hippy), and I don’t hide it, so if you’ve come here more than a couple times, you probably don’t totally disagree with my take on things and hate me for it. But nonetheless, I want such an awesome, heartfelt, well-reasoned, logical, BRILLIANT argument for marriage equality to spread like wildfire, so, read this, and pass it on.

And if you’re in NC, FUCKING VOTE ON MAY 8TH. DO IT. I’m going to, and I’m a total lazy ass who usually can’t be buggered to walk literally five minutes down my street to the elementary school that’s my voting place and vote on local legislation and whatnot. (I mean, like, whether or not to widen a road, or how to fund a park. I vote for presidential elections, and…that’s pretty much it, to be honest. Bad citizen, me. But on May 8th, I’ll summon up the “can be buggered” to walk five minutes down the street, roll up in an elementary school, and get my vote on. So, yeah. You should do it, too. And if you can’t get to your polling place as easily as I can, don’t let that stop you – there are tons of people who take the day off to give voters free rides to the polls. Shit, May 8th, I might even *be* one of them, just gotta figure out how to sign up for that and get the word out. You know want to ride with me, in my fly hoopty. I’ll bring snacks, too.)

And if you’re not pro-marriage-equality, and you’re not just some one-time lookie-loo, do me a personal favor and read the WHOLE article. ALL of it. And check out the pie chart. And think really, really hard about it for a couple minutes – don’t just read it and shut down, but actually consider it. I bet it’ll change the way you look at things, even just a bit.

TiLT! 9/15/11

September 15, 2011 at 12:00 am (blather, celebrate, eat, hang out, heal, laugh, listen, love, make, NOTD, preen, sleep, squee, TiLT, watch, wear, wiggle)

Okay, so this is more of a things I love, and things I’m grateful for, but you’re cool with that, right? I mean, that’s pretty much been the case for the last couple TiLTs.

-Gogol Bordello
-Balkan Beat Box
-”Cleopatra in New York” (original mix), by Nickodemus feat. Carol C
-being back in bellydance classes again!
-learning a swank new choreography to “Cleopatra in New York”
-anti-nausea meds and clonazepam (for helping me function and not feel nauseous to the point of disgust and misery while I adjust to a lower, safer dose of citalopram)
-green smoothies
-Luther (Idris Elba is amazing, and Ruth Wilson is amazing, too, and sooooo pretty, even if she is a sociopath)
-Wire in the Blood (my infatuation with Robson Green, let me show you it)
-the white blanket Greg’s mom gave us ages ago – it is seriously *the best feeling* blanket we have (second, and close, runner-up is the velour-y grey one Jackson gave us as a wedding gift several years ago, but it’s a little too warm for the weather lately – looking forward to busting it out in Fall, though)
-crafting for others and goody packages – I have got a TON of projects planned, and it’s a bit overwhelming, but at the same time, sooooo exciting, I love it!
-the lovely Audrey (also here, and on tumblr) quoting Pablo Neruda and making my fucking week by doing so
-planning tattoos – and trust me, the next one? IS GOING TO BE A DOOZY! I can’t wait.
-attending a wedding of two people who absolutely belong together and are rad as shit (aka, Brandi and Jonny) this weekend
-our new laptop because 1-it doesn’t suck and more importantly, 2-now we can sit on the loveseat in the living room and *each* have a laptop on our laps, and for some reason I find that image ridiculously cute
-OPI’s Steady as She Rose
-acupuncture, therapy, psychiatry, and getting back off the sugar – between cutting out sugar again, and the slight change to my anxiety meds, I’m feeling kind of not-so-hot right now, but once I get past this slight adjustment, I am going to feel RAD!
-my new filofax (the organizer to end all organizers – no more one for work and one for home and another that tracks moon phases, etc; this is THE ONE, and I love it)
-Chinese mesh slippers
-black rubber bracelets (although apparently they are or used to be some sort of teenage code for “down to fuck” if someone broke a bracelet off you; this is not why I am wearing them, so if anyone tries to get smart, they’re getting bopped on the nose; I just find them amusing, and I am fully embracing my silliness these days)
-ammeB’s awesome turban headbands – loooooooove

I think text-only is kind of boring, so I’ll post pics and vids soon, promise! And I’m still working on choosing a new layout/theme, and the destash blog sale. :)

BLOG SALE COMING SOON!

September 9, 2011 at 5:38 pm (ask, blather)

Hey all – in case you care, I’ve decided to do some massive de-stashing, since I have a ridiculous amount of makeup and nailpolish, and alot of it is completely unused, or has only been used once or twice. So….yeah. I’m starting to sort through shit now. Hopefully it won’t take too long. If you’re interested, keep your eyes peeled. :) (Also, I’ve got to look into wordpress’s policies on blogsales, but I’ve still got my blogspot.com account, so I might do it there?)

While we’re talking about the blog on the blog ;) – I’m getting tired of this theme. Thinking about switching to a magazine-style one, or something different at least. Any suggestions? Also, any suggestions for the types of posts you’d like to see more of, or more regularly? I’m not particularly concerned about increasing my readership (I know, crazy, right) – but I *am* concerned about keeping my current readers entertained. So, let me know if I can cater to that better. :)

TiLT! 9/8/11

September 8, 2011 at 3:32 pm (blather, celebrate, Chalupa, hair, hang out, listen, pets, preen, sing praises, Skeeter, TiLT, watch, wear)

New songs from Therese/Bee Sting Sessions (recorded outside, so the wind gets in the way a bit, but you can still hear her beautiful, beautiful voice!):

(you can also listen to some of her older songs on the Bee Sting Sessions site)
-rain, more specifically hurricanes that didn’t do any damage in our area
-M&M “ice cream cake” cakewrecks (no cake in it – just M&M ice cream in a dome, covered in icing – and look at the expression on his face!)

-a gorgeous new dress from soulrust that matches (matched) my orange hair:

-Hello Kitty rings from Melbarbie

-Hello Kitty (clip-in) felt ears from bratfactory

-Camping out in the hallway during two tornado watches Tuesday – not the *most* fun, but we didn’t get any damage, and the cats cuddled with me, so it was kind of sweet, and I slept through most of it (until the really loud thunder/tornado sounds happened, but they didn’t last very long, thankfully). I was pretty well kitted out with my Kindle, my teddy bear (Septimus) and Stitch, and lunch. Skeeter slept on the couch cushions with me, and Chalupa slept on her green faux fur…thing. (It’s just a folded up bit of fabric that usually stays in the craft room, but she didn’t want to be by herself, so I pulled it out to make her more comfortable.)

That’s more of a thing I’m grateful for, rather than actually *loved* loved, but you know.
-lovely headbands from ammeB, which I’ll model as soon as the dye isn’t rubbing off my hair o.o – but for now you can look at the cutie packaging!

September 7, 2011 at 1:05 pm (blather, copy/homage, hair, mug for the camera, preen, watch) (, , , , , , , , )

This week for The Makeup Heroes, we decided to share our takes on the gorgeous Upside Down Smokey Eye look by Marlena, of MakeupGeek TV. Here’s her tute – love it!

And here’s my take, and a bit about how/why I switched it up, and a bit of rambling (but of course!):

Photos, close-ups, and product details under the cut, as per usual.

Nails of last week and this week :)

September 7, 2011 at 12:10 pm (NOTD, preen) (, )

Last week: Zoya Gemma (just gorgeous!)

This week: two coats of Revlon Carbonite, 1 coat Seche Vite (Carbonite was kind of gritty before the Seche Vite, but I’m not sure how I like the Seche Vite, either – but first time using Seche Vite, so I’m waiting to decide; and ugh, I didn’t realize they needed to be cleaned up around the edges – although by now it’s worn off and cleaned itself, so….win)
