Really, I just wanted to wear A Different Grape, and I figured a neutral eye would be a good way to go. (Or at least minimize concerns over it not “going.”) Apologies for the overly coy pose, but I wanted to show off this fantastically adorable ammeB headband. I FUCKING LOVE HER STUFF! In fact, it’s been far too long since my last fix. Hmmm… Anyway, this day, my hair was a bit lank (from over-conditioning the night before, since I’ve just dyed my hair again and I’m trying to baby it), so I needed a cute headband. But ammeB’s stuff is so rad, I wear it on great hair days, too! You should really go check her store out. Also, we moved my vanity (used to be my grandmother’s) back into the bedroom, so I could do my makeup there in the mornings. Greg hooked up a spare light (the grow light I used for my poor sea monkeys, before they died
), so me and the camera are still trying to adjust to the lighting in here. Apologies if it’s a bit off, but it doesn’t look too off to me. (I’m going to try to set up some day bulbs, maybe? Since we don’t get much natural light in the room anyway, and it’s also Fall and getting dark super early these days. And I, ahem, usually photograph my makeup in the evening, when I get home from work. Can’t get my shit together quite enough to put it on AND photograph it in the mornings.) Anyway, onto the look.

FOTD: Sultry Raven? (11/4/11)
I felt like this was a bit too much for work (I know! for me, even), but Greg liked it quite a bit. I did think it was pretty – I just wasn’t expecting the highlight color to have so much oomph to it. It’s very….shimmery. Although it’s not as in-your-face in the photos as it was in real life.

HOLY SHIT – for all y’all glasses-wearers
Check out Warby Parker! No, really, go do it!
They’ll let you try five frames for five days completely free – they pay for shipping both ways. And then when you buy a pair, they donate a pair – kind of like Tom’s shoes, only for glasses. They’ve even got stuff to help you decide on frames (based on color, width, face shape). I haven’t even looked at their sunglasses yet.
Holy, holy crap! So excited! I picked Webb, Winston, Finn, Monroe, and Thatcher to try out, and I can’t wait. (And you better believe I’ll be posting pics – so get ready to help me decide!)
FOTD: Poisoned by Mistake (11/02/11)
FOTD: More spoilage (11/1/11)
This time via Robyn and Heather – those little sweethearts! Thank you for spoiling me!!!
Now I’m working on packages for you, muahahahahah!

HALLOWE’EN, BITCHES! WHOOP, WHOOP! (Sorry this is so belated!)
AND WE WERE JUGGALOS! AND IT WAS AWESOME! (Picture shamelessly stolen and edited; taken by the RAD JANET! Who was the Cheshire Cat, and it was awesome! AND she wore Clinique’s Different Grape lipstick, which I’d been lemming, so I got to see the color “in action” as it were, and that clinched it. It’s beautiful. And I have it. And now I need to use it in a look.)

HOLY SHIT, HELEN, THANK YOU!
For introducing me to Outlaws of Style, another collab YT channel – THAT I FUCKING LOVE!!!!
Everyone, ignore this slackass blog, and go run over to their channel and show some love. (And then go blow kisses at the Makeup Heroes, too, because I’m greedy. Muahahahah.)
OOTD: 11/3/11
Fairly simple – boring, really. Much less arty than it looks on that polyvore set. I’m not sure how I feel about polyvore, to be honest. On the one hand, I don’t have to pose for an outfit shot, and worry about my pose, and getting all of me in the shot, and it being flattering (which, as a fat lady, is a concept I should tell to “get fucked” already, but yeah, still nattering on in my head). On the other hand, this is like….a no-brainer outfit for me, and yet on polyvore, it looks like I might actually have some smidgeon of style, right? Does that make it disingenuous? I’ve been thinking about doing more outfit posts (mainly in an effort to get myself to actually THINK ABOUT and plan out what I’m going to wear, rather than just reach for the first thing that smells clean) – so, actual pictures, or polyvore? I mean, I’d faithfully reproduce what I wore on polyvore. If it was like a made-up, fantasy look I’m imagined up, I’d tell you. But anyway, photos or polyvore? Or both? Or either?
Anyhoodle, here’s today’s look. The wedding band is exact; the other two rings are very close approximations (since I could not find my exact rings sold online, and therefore could not use the clipper tool; nor where they in polyvore’s catalog of images). The shoes are also close approximates. As is the necklace – I didn’t buy it, and the key looks almost exactly like that, but Greg found it for me during a special time, so it has sentimental value, and I just wear it on a spare chain. And the sweater’s reading a little navy to me, on our screen, but it should be black. (Lots of provisos here, huh.) Also, I didn’t show my leggings, as they were under my jeans (it is cold in the mornings now, y’all):
The shirt’s also an approximation, since it’s my Alloy ballet neck raw edge tee, and the only pics you can find of it these days are on google, and the clipper tool won’t play with google, boo fucking hoo. And the jacket – I got mine from Torrid, but it’s the same exact pattern, cut, faux fur, so looks like Forever21 got the “regular” sizes and Torrid got the “plus” sizes, but it’s comfy as a motherfucker.
Oh, and that circular scarf?! I FUCKEN LOVE IT TO PIECES! It is so comfy and versatile – a smashing cowl, and can be worn as a scarf and hood in a pinch. And they still have it for cheap at Forever21 – probs going to pick up another in black, and then one in dusty pink. Not feeling the fuchsia too much, to be honest.
I feel like I did a shitty job on my BCA post
I really should’ve linked y’all to some info, or talked a bit about, you know, breast cancer, instead of just slapping up a pink makeup look. I mean, pink makeup is cute, but….there wasn’t alot of substance in that post, you know? So, here’s some substance.
The Scar Project – a fantastic and really powerful project
-American Cancer Society’s Breast Cancer page
-If you’re looking to donate, the Susan G. Komen Foundation is my favorite, for breast cancer. Otherwise, hit up that American Cancer Society. (Or your cancer-related charity of choice. Those two are just my personal faves.)
Check your boobs regularly. DO IT. If you’re a bit squeamish like me, maybe your partner will be (ahem) happy to help out. (Or more than happy. TMI, but TRUTH. Just as long as them puppies get checked, and regularly.) Remember that men can get breast cancer, too. Get mammograms when it’s time – I’m expecting to be told to get one any day now (I’m almost 32, I think 35 is when doctors usually start recommending it, and my doc is on the cautious side) – they might not be comfortable, but they’re better than finding cancer late.
ALSO, while we’re sort of on the subject: TALK TO YOUR FAMILY, TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR. KNOW YOUR MEDICAL HISTORY AND YOUR RISK FOR CANCER (VARIOUS FORMS, NOT JUST BREAST CANCER). CANCER IS A BITCH AND A HALF, BUT YOU CAN BEAT IT, AND YOUR BEST BET AT BEATING IT IS TO CATCH THAT FUCKER IN THE EARLY STAGES. I’m repeating myself here, but: know your family history and your risks, and talk to your doctor, and keep a fucking eye out. Risk of breast cancer? Self-checks, doctor’s exams, and mammograms. Risk of skin cancer? Start seeing a dermatologist, have them suss out your moles and shit. Risk of other forms of cancer? Well, KNOW WHAT YOUR RISKS ARE AND TAKE THE APPROPRIATE STEPS AND PRECAUTIONS – AND THEN KEEP IT UP.
There’s all sorts of cancer in my own family history, and I know too many people who currently have it, or had it and survived, or had it and died (and that’s the worst and makes me the angriest). I know my risks, I’ve discussed them with my doctor. Mammogram vs. undetected breast cancer? Smooshed boobs, every time. Colonoscopy vs. undetected colon cancer? Camera up my butt, let’s do this thing. You get the picture. I am dead serious, because cancer is dead serious.
FOTD: Stockholm Pixi (10/29/11)
This is the look I wore to Sam & Tricia’s wedding, which was so, so, so lovely! (But I managed just to cheese real big the whole time, and not cry. There was also a little boy sitting next to me, who kept looking at me and trying to decide whether to smile or not – I finally cracked him by making faces, after the wedding, when we were waiting to file out of the pews.)
